The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 140.46 points, or 0.52%, to 27,046.23, the SP 500 lost 9.21 points, or 0.30%, to 3,037.56 and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 11.62 points, or 0.14%, to 8,292.36.
MSCI#39;s broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan was up 0.2%. Japan#39;s Nikkei stock index rose 0.41%, but Australian shares fell 0.24%.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 115.27 points, or 0.43%, to 27,186.69, the SP 500 gained 9.88 points, or 0.33%, to 3,046.77 and the Nasdaq Composite added 27.12 points, or 0.33%, to 8,303.98.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average .DJI fell 20.04 points, or 0.07%, to 27,070.68, the SP 500 .SPX lost 2.54 points, or 0.08%, to 3,036.88 and the Nasdaq Composite .IXIC dropped 49.14 points, or 0.59%, to 8,276.85.

Japan#39;s Nikkei led the way with a rise of 0.6% to reach ground last trod a full year ago. MSCI#39;s broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan crept up 0.2% in early trade to its highest since late July.
